Happy New Year! 2024 will be an exciting time for Goodwill Columbus as we celebrate our 85th anniversary throughout the year. While operating for 85 years is an amazing feat for almost any organization, more impressively, Goodwill Columbus has played a pivotal role in strengthening our community over the decades, empowering individuals, and making a lasting difference. I am excited about the prospect of working with each of you to extend our impact well into the future.
This coming Monday, our nation will celebrate the legacy of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. In honor of this occasion, I wanted to share a link to my favorite MLK speech, titled “What’s in Your Life’s Blueprint?” In this speech, Dr. King emphasizes the importance of believing in one’s own dignity, worth, and ‘somebodiness.’ The following quote from his speech resonates with me:
“Number one in your life’s blueprint should be a deep belief in your own dignity, your worth, and your own ‘somebodiness.’ Don’t allow anybody to make you feel that you’re nobody. Always feel that you count. Always feel that you have worth, and always feel that your life has ultimate significance.”
This sentiment aligns with our organization’s vision statement, which envisions a community where all individuals are embraced as valued and dignified members. If we can realize this vision, we will create a culture of which we can all be proud—a culture that truly honors Dr. King’s legacy.
I look forward to seeing you soon,
Ryan
