These services are offered to the public at no-cost at various Goodwill Columbus job training centers and are focused on preparing individuals for in-demand jobs in the information technology, healthcare, hospitality, and logistics industries.

A.M.P. (Achieve More and Prosper)

The purpose of AMP is to help out-of-school young adults between the ages of 18-24 enter a career pathway and attain long-term self-sufficiency prior to program completion. Eligible participants will be paired with a Goodwill Columbus AMP Coach who serves as a hands-on, personal advocate.

Each coach will build a personalized plan to connect the participant to holistic support services and provide assistance in life training, learning new skills, and work experience through paid and non-paid internships, job shadowing, on-the-job training, and pre-apprenticeship programs. 

Qualifications:
  • Young adults, ages 18-24 years old
  • Resides in Franklin County
  • Not currently enrolled in classes
  • Meets income guidelines

Roads2Work (CDL Training)

Goodwill Columbus is proud to partner with Capital Transportation Academy on Roads2Work – Franklin County.

The mission of Roads2Work is to prepare low- and moderate-income individuals who are unemployed, under-employed, career transitioning, and restored citizens for immediate employment in the transportation industry as a commercial driver (Class A CDL).

No previous experience is necessary – just bring the desire to be great! The Roads2Work-Franklin County Commercial Driver Training Program is no cost to you and is funded by a grant from Franklin County Department of Job & Family Services, in partnership with Goodwill Columbus and Capital Transportation Academy.

Many local, regional, and national Roads2Work partner employers are ready to hire Roads2Work-Franklin County graduates immediately upon completion of the training program.

Class Format

  • Classes can be completed remotely at home or by utilizing the Upskilling Lab for computer and Wi-Fi access at Goodwill Columbus
  • Credentials can be completed in 3 to 6 months per credential depending on the student’s skill set

Digital Skills Drop-in Workshops at Columbus Metropolitan Libraries

Class Format

  • Computer Basics, Internet Safety, Use of Smartphones and Tablets
  • In person classes are available Monday thru Friday at Columbus Metropolitan Library branches throughout central Ohio as well the Ohio Means Job Center. Please click here to see class availability.

Information Technology

Career Pathway Industry Recognized Credentials/ First Job

  • CompTIA A+ or Google IT Support Professional
  • Facebook Social Media Marketing Professional Certification

Career Pathway Industry Recognized Credentials/ Next Best Job

  • Network+, Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker

Class Format

  • CompTIA A+ classes are in-person for 12 weeks/day class, 15 weeks/night class
  • Google IT Support Professional, Network +, Security +, and Certified Ethical Hacker will be completed remotely and can be completed within 3 to 6 six months depending on the student’s skill set
  • Facebook Social Media classes will be remote and can be completed in 4 to 5 months depending on the student’s skill set

Healthcare

Career Pathway Industry Recognized Credential/First Job

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Career Pathway Industry Recognized Credentials/Next Best Job

  • Medical Billing and Coding (potential for remote work), Medical Front Office Administrative Assistant

Class Format

  • STNA – Classes are in-person at The Reeb Avenue Center on the south side of Columbus and can be completed in 5 weeks
  • Medical Billing & Coding, Medical Front Office Adm. Asst., Behavior Technician – Classes can be completed remotely in 24 weeks or less depending on the student’s skill set

Broadband Infrastructure

The broadband infrastructure program prepares students for careers as:
  • Fiber optic cable installer
  • Broadband equipment installation technician
  • Fiber optic splicing technician trainee
  • Broadband equipment troubleshooter

Students receive:

  • Certified Premises Cabling Technician (CPCT®)
  • Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT®)
  • Occupational Safety and Health Association 10 hour
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Criteria for students:
  • Candidates must be 18+ years of age and have a diploma/equivalent.
  • Candidates must be able to distinguish between colors.
  • Candidates must be able to navigate small enclosures.

Commercial Driver Training (Roads2Work) with Capital Transportation Academy

  • Free training for a Class A CDL 
  • Graduates are eligible for roles offering $60K/year + benefits
  • Must pass a physical and drug screen

Class Format

  • Training will be completed in 5-to-6 weeks
