Josh was just 13 credits shy of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, but he was still looking for the right key to unlock his professional IT career. When his annual employment contract began drawing to a close last summer, a search on the OhioMeansJobs website led him to the breakthrough he needed: Goodwill’s free IT training.
Determined to get his foot in the door, Josh committed to an intensive 15-week program at Goodwill’s Job Training Center on Brice Road, attending classes four nights a week. His dedication peaked when he passed the rigorous two-part exam to earn his CompTIA A+ certification. The impact was immediate.
“After earning my A+ certification at the start of the month, I landed a service desk position with Community Choice Financial,” Josh said. “The job is challenging, but I love it. I finally achieved my goal of getting into the IT field, and I can take these skills anywhere.”
Josh is quick to credit the Goodwill team members who supported him along the way, specifically Michael and Fred. “They are phenomenal,” he said. He now enjoys a career that offers the modern flexibility he was looking for, working a hybrid schedule that allows him to work from home when needed.
Looking back on the 15-week journey, Josh’s message to others is simple: “I have already recommended the Goodwill class to others. It’s time-consuming, but it’s worth it. The stars really aligned for me with this opportunity, and I owe a huge thank you to Goodwill. I wouldn’t be here without the hard work and dedication of the entire team.”
