Good Turn Day - Make a Donation, Earn a Patch

Help Goodwill Transform Lives Through Donations

Goodwill Columbus is partnering with The Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland for scouts to do a ‘good turn’ for the community by collecting used clothing, books, housewares, and other items to be donated to Goodwill or by volunteering. To recognize doing a good turn in these neighborhood service projects, scouts earn a patch. The items collected are sold in Goodwill’s retail stores to support its mission of transforming the lives of individuals with disabilities and other barriers through pathways to independence and the power of work.

When is Good Turn Day?
This fall, the event surrounds Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 with varying volunteer opportunities for Girl Scouts to participate in.

How can I earn a patch for Good Turn Day?
There are 2 ways that Girl Scouts can earn a patch for Good Turn Day this spring. Scouts may choose one of the two options below:

  1. Donate to Goodwill Columbus! Donate the equivalent of one bag (traditional grocery bag or larger) and drop it off at any of the locations listed with your name and troop affixed to the bag.  Get friends and family to donate to fill your bag. To view a list of things that Goodwill Columbus does and does not accept, click here.

When you drop the donation at participating location below, you'll need to identify yourself as a girl scout on-site so we give you the proper form to receive a badge.

    OR ...

  2. Volunteer for Goodwill Columbus! Most of our retail store locations (all except outlet store) are offering volunteer shifts for Girl Scouts. Each volunteer shift is 2 hours in length. For reasons of safety, Girl Scouts that chose to volunteer in store must be 10 years of age or older, must have a parent or guardian sign a volunteer waiver. There must be 1 adult chaperone/volunteer for every 2-3 scouts that volunteer.

    a. Email vicki.christian@gwcols.com with your preferred location (see list below) and day & time.
    b. Make sure to review our volunteer guidelines before volunteering.
    c. Bring a signed copy of our waiver for every volunteer. Scouts will need a guardian's signature.

Do I get my patch right away?
Yes, all 18 donation locations should have access to patches. If we run out for some reason, please encourage your donation attendant to follow up with our retail management and we'll see that a badge is made available.  Use our "Contact Us" page for feedback if you have any issues and we'll help get them sorted out.
