Goodwill Columbus Hosting Job Fair to Staff First of Five New Stores

Goodwill Columbus is hosting a job fair to find top talent to fill various retail positions before April.

The job fair will be held at Goodwill’s retail store, located at 3608 Main St. in Hilliard on Friday, January 23 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Open positions include store leader, assistant store leader, supervisors, and associates. Jobseekers can apply in person at the job fair or online at

“This is the ideal opportunity for experienced retail leaders and for people looking to gain leadership experience and to play a major role in the next phase of Goodwill Columbus’s presence in Central Ohio,” said Tim Salvato, Senior Vice President of Retail Operations for Goodwill Columbus.

The goal of the job fair will be to staff the organization’s newest store, located at 5526 Renner Rd., just south of Hilliard. The new store is expected to open in mid-April. Each new store will be newly built and will follow a flagship design.  The freestanding stores will span 15,000-18,000 total square feet and will feature natural lighting, exposed ceilings, polished concrete floors, and spacious donation drop off areas.

“By expanding our reach in central Ohio, we’re expanding our ability to fund programming for individuals with disabilities and other barriers,” Salvato said. The nonprofit runs several lines of business to help fund important programs including day habilitation programs, community-based supported living services, employment training, and job placement services.

Goodwill Columbus has been proudly serving the local community for 75 years. Since 1939, the agency has dedicated itself to transforming the lives of individuals with disabilities and other barriers through pathways to independence and the power of work.

Goodwill Columbus is the sixth largest nonprofit in central Ohio and is among the top 100 largest employers central Ohio.  The organization provides nearly 2 million hours of service to more than 3,800 participants with disabilities and other barriers. Goodwill Columbus Retail Expansion Fact Sheet

Goodwill Columbus took a long, hard look at the landscape of serving jobseekers with developmental disabilities and other barriers in central Ohio and one thing became clear- steps must be taken to ensure the sustainability of our organization. We understand that local and national funding sources—government, corporate, and foundation-- are continually stretched thin as the needs of our community’s most vulnerable citizens continue to rise.  Our agency must continue advancing, rigorously, our model of social enterprise through the businesses we operate, to assure we can provide a level of predictability and financial stability with earned income revenue streams to support our vital mission services. Therefore, we decided to nearly double our retail presence in Central Ohio with the opening of multiple retail flagship stores in Columbus within the next three years.

 Store Features:

Each new store will be freestanding and newly built, spanning 15,000 to 18,000 total square feet. The flagship stores will be unlike any in the market, and will feature natural lighting, exposed ceilings, polished concrete floors, and a spacious covered donation drop-off area. Each store will also feature “micro gallery” displays of artwork created by artists with disabilities and other barriers in The Goodwill Art Studio & Gallery.  Goodwill has also extended an invitation to other Ohio artists who use repurposed and/or upcycle materials to sell on consignment in the stores. A rendering of the store can be found here:

Within the next three years, at the following locations, Goodwill Columbus will open five new flagship retail stores:

  • Spring 2015: 5526 Renner Road Columbus, Ohio 43026

Near Hilliard, along Renner Road, in front of the Meijer. Located in the NW corner of Hilliard/Rome Rd & Renner Rd. (Trabue turns into Renner).

  • Fall 2015: Gahanna, near the intersection of Hamilton and Morse roads.
  • Other locations/openings TBD. All five stores are scheduled to be completed by fall 2017.

Each store is expected to cost approximately $1.1 million and will create approximately 25 new jobs. Goodwill is working with Berengaria Development, a real estate consulting, development and management services firm, which has overseen construction of many new Goodwill stores across the country. Elford, Inc. is construction firm of record for the first store, and M & A Architects is the architect of record for the first store.
