Art Access Bexley to show Goodwill studio artists

COLUMBUS – Art Access Gallery owner Barbara Unverferth knows great art when she sees it. Since 1992, she has shown internationally acclaimed contemporary artists in her galleries, and curated for top museums and corporate collections. Beginning March 10, Art Access will host – for the second time – the work of artists with disabilities and other barriers from the Goodwill Studio & Gallery. “Selected Works” will open with a reception on March 10 from 5-8:00 p.m. and will run through April 10.

Unverferth was first introduced to the work of Goodwill Studio & Gallery artists two years ago when Goodwill resident artists Cody Miller and Deborah Griffing paid a visit to Art Access. They invited Unverferth to stop by the Goodwill studio to check out what their artists were working on, and to see if she would consider showing their work.

“What immediately appealed to me about the work coming from the Goodwill Studio and Gallery is that it is just so intuitively good,” said Unverferth.  “The Goodwill artists produce exceptionally high-quality work that is a great fit for Art Access.”

Supported through donations from the public and revenue from Goodwill retail operations, the Goodwill Studio & Gallery was founded in 2006 as a place for people with disabilities and other barriers to receive the support they need to become working artists. Participants are provided supplies, artistic guidance and marketing assistance.

Selected Works will feature the work of 39 Goodwill artists. The show kicks off with a reception March 10 at 540 S Drexel Ave, Columbus, OH 43209, from 5-8:00 p.m. and runs through April 10.
